It’s been an incredible 6 weeks… I really appreciate all the emails and comments and the amazing number of people that have signed up to read and follow this site.  I know what everyone is asking,

“Ray, can you just tell me what to do?”

The answer is YES, but hang on a bit. One thing I expected would happen is the  “me too” people  that would just start driveling about being cold and losing weight. The other expectation was that it would be presented as miserable and extreme. I wanted to support the ideas within The 4-hour body before beginning to suggest alternative/complementary approaches. Unfortunately, the health and fitness industry is loaded people that earn expert status by learning a few new words. Face it, we’ve never been more unfit as a species and we’ve also never spent more achieving it. That’s quite a contradiction.

Perhaps it’s time to change that even if it’s just a small group of us.

cold exposure and weight loss... do we put on more fat for insulation in the winter?I fly a lot and on my recent trip to California, the fasten seat belt sign came on and within a few minutes, the plane ride became bumpy. The Captain announced over the intercom that he was going to asked the (uniformed) flight attendants to stop service until things cleared up. The sign went off a while later and peanuts, pretzels, and drinks were flowing (I resisted the urge). It happened more than once on this particular trip. Read Full Article →

Weight loss involves continuing to take small steps over timeEvery day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.” ~ Winston Churchill.

It’s easy to to become discouraged.  We all know, or think we know, fitness is a journey and not a destination, and yet the reality is that everyone feels that if they can just get past a certain point, it will be much easier. Read Full Article →

measuring and recording your progress is the only way to push through weight loss stagnation. If you want to progress, you must  measure. It’s true people win the lottery every now and then.  More often than winning the lottery, people get struck by lightning. The rest of us have to do something to see results. My observations are that  success is absolutely tied to measuring.  It can be predictive, suggestive, or sometimes compulsive, but I truly believe the more often one writes something down, the more likely it is they will succeed. With just two fingers you can prove how easy it is to adapt to cooler temperatures and lose weightIt’s a simple test to demonstrate that your body doesn’t require a perfect temperature to be comfortable, it has a range of temperatures that are comfortable.  Part of our amazing evolutionary survival is the ability to adapt. Not all adaptation happens genetically, it can be driven intellectually as well.

Changing the temperature of the environment around you is one of great examples. Read Full Article →

Losing weight is on top of everyone's New Year's Even Resolutions, but what are you going to DO about it?Each year losing weight or getting fit creeps into the top ten list of New Year’s resolutions and each year we get fatter as a nation and a world. Even though we spent more than $46 billion in 2009 on diet and exercise, it seems we aren’t making progress; let’s face it we EXCEL at fat. Read Full Article →

ABC News Nightline host Cynthia McFadden talks about 4-hour body, Tim Ferriss and Ray Cronise unique take on cold weight lossIt was interesting to watch the reports Tuesday evening on ABC World News and Nightline.  I know that sensation sells and people just can’t help the low hanging fruit of crazy cold.  The truth is, I was rarely “cold” when losing weight, because I adapted to cooler temperatures, not cold. I wrote about Wim Hof in a previous Read Full Article →

The Four Hour Body is an exciting new chapter in self-experimentation and unprecedented resultsSo what’s all the hype with The 4-Hour Body about? I think this book has the chance to revolutionize the way we look at diet and fitness; in short it’s taking the control away from the $46 billion diet and fitness industry and putting it back in your hands.

How?

Simple: self-experimentation and information. In 2009, I attended TEDMED Read Full Article →

Normal people do not have this [boost in metabolism], because they are simply not trained. Shivering is a pathetic response.”

Now that is an interesting response to a question about being packed in ice for an hour and forty-five minutes. When I first started to study the human thermoregulatory system, I found many links on the internet to the “Iceman. Read Full Article →
