It’s been an incredible 6 weeks… I really appreciate all the emails and comments and the amazing number of people that have signed up to read and follow this site.  I know what everyone is asking,

“Ray, can you just tell me what to do?”

The answer is YES, but hang on a bit. One thing I expected would happen is the  “me too” people  that would just start driveling about being cold and losing weight. The other expectation was that it would be presented as miserable and extreme. I wanted to support the ideas within The 4-hour body before beginning to suggest alternative/complementary approaches. Unfortunately, the health and fitness industry is loaded people that earn expert status by learning a few new words. Face it, we’ve never been more unfit as a species and we’ve also never spent more achieving it. That’s quite a contradiction.

Perhaps it’s time to change that even if it’s just a small group of us.

The problem with cold is it can be dangerous – if you go too extreme. Hypothermia is a real issue and one that we need not voluntarily invoke. I have seen a few posts out there that really scare me, so please, don’t do silly things and hurt yourself. Further, if you don’t have a solid foundation of diet and exercise, there may be a tendency to overeat if you increase your caloric deficit through thermal loading. Take it stepwise and make a lifestyle change.

I believe an important concept presented in The 4-Hour Body was to give people a foundation and then we should individually explore the ideas further through self-experimentation.  Like I have said here in the past, Tim’s protocols were something he worked out and I am curious to see how they play out in world at large (pun intended). Not only will I start adding some great things you can do to shed extra pounds using thermal loading, but most importantly, I am going to teach you how your body senses cold and a few tricks you can do to make cold tolerable. Armed with this information, there are probably dozens of successful methods you can use.

Still, it matters that one understands the basic principles.

I am told that my TEDMED2010 talk will release soon. There was also a study just released in Obesity Reviews that supports what we’ve presented and I experienced first hand. Of course, there are many DETAILED studies from the 50s-present that absolutely corroborate personal results. My efforts now are how to create simple, easy to follow guidelines for accelerating weight loss using thermal loading.

Here is a great example of something that SCARE ME:

PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO’S INSTRUCTIONS

This guy may be great at a lot of things – I don’t know, but I can tell you that this advice on cold is just plain dangerous. Certainly he’s at least read parts of The 4-Hour Body, but never quotes it as a source. I am certain that everyone that has followed me at Thermogenex knows I recommend a foundation of diet and exercise and only then, add thermal loading.

Take a lesson from Andrew at CrossFit UK (thanks Andrew) and many others following Thermogenex in the Fitness Industry – it’s great to quote sources. Not only because of the plagiarism or integrity side, but more importantly, it helps build a connection of knowledge and this can accelerates progress for everyone. We all get it wrong from time to time and that is where primary sources matter.

Ok, enough of that stuff…on to this week. I have struggled with mailing lists and I BELIEVE  it’s figured out. My goal is to not email anyone that doesn’t want to hear from me. There are only about 300 out of the thousands that didn’t make it through the subscription process. I don’t know if that is on purpose or the system failed. If you are reading this, you aren’t a part of that list – don’t worry.

You should have received an email with the Free Guide Download (let me know if you didn’t) and also I’ll put up Part 2 of BATgirl in the next day or so.  It looks like a part 3 is in the making, due to some INCREDIBLE questions/comments – please keep them coming.

You will notice a segway in the next month or two. While I have studied the Thermodynamics side extensively, I also did a lot of work on diet, nutrition, and exercise. My focus is on progress and compliance, more that pounds/week. How does one maintain a healthy lifestyle and not have to be fearful of EVERYTHING eaten?   What about those of us that DON’T like exercise, what can we do? How do we integrate our weight problem into our family’s needs? What about business travelers?

I will be adding in more information on maintaining a caloric deficit in the coming weeks – also some cool strategies for staying true to the Slow Carb diet. Lots of other bits and pieces along the way…

As always, thanks for following.

So outside of being a punk for spouting his “research”, what did they video dude say that was dangerous?

Lmfao that guy cracks me up.

    So ignorant.

Not a chance he did an ice bath, and, he has never taken a 15 minute cold shower. I am also going to make a blatant assumption that he doesn’t live in the north. I live in Detroit. IT IS COLD OUTSIDE. I take the 10 minute cold shower, IN ADDITION TO MY DIET AND TRAINING, because I DO NOT WANT TO GO OUTSIDE. I just started taking them at night instead of the icepack for 30 minutes (not 3 hours!) because I was too hot to sleep.

Could this perhaps be a facetious video? Perhaps poking fun at hypothermics + 4hb?
